Roadwarners

a Warner family adventure

Day 217. 3.30.20. Arizona. Utah. Nevada.

It’s still another 9 hours to Truckee. As of now we won’t get there till about 10pm. But we want to stop off at a store before we get to the house. So we’ll see, but we may stop off in the middle of nowhere in Nevada and stop at a store in the am.

We did drive right by Area 51

Day 215. 3.28.20. New Mexico. Arizona

We needed to get out and stretch our legs. Horseshoe bend is only about a 10 minute walk and was one of Isabella’s favorite spots.

Day 216. 3.29.20. Arizona. Utah. Arizona.

Everything is closed, but it was a good place to stop for the night.

Day 214. 3.27.20. Santa Fe. New Mexico.

Day 213. 3.26.20. Texas. New Mexico.

We stayed at a rest stop along the side of the highway about an hour outside of Dallas. We basically woke up and drove. It was hot in the middle of the day. We ended in New Mexico and the temperature completely changed. When we got out of the car it felt weird to be cold.

Day 212. 3.25.20. Mississippi. Louisiana. Texas.

We woke and walked on the beach for a bit. Beaches in Mississippi are open. But not for long. Everyone was antsy to get on the road and we were getting eaten alive.

RV spots on the left…beach on the right.
I think we need to wash our windshield…from the inside.

Read this on the news today. The girls and Edwin drove through Tishomingo on the way down from Arkansas.

In spite of no real stopping, we did find entertaining things along the way.

I’ll let you have fun saying the name of the river and all the funny sentences you can build around it.

Crossing back over the Mississippi.

We never did go on a paddle boat ride 🙁

Looking for your next mailbox idea??

Well we stayed in the car until this…you think I could keep Edwin away…

And then drove through this neighborhood.

Vera was not happy that I got her excited and said we found a river to jump in…

Read about a little history of the Acadians.

Snack time

There was traffic everywhere in Dallas

We pulled over a little more than an hour outside Dallas at a rest stop for the night.

Happy Birthday Amanda…we ❤️ u!

3.7.20. Happy Birthday Danny & Sierra. We ❤️ U!

Day 211. 3.24.20. Destin. Florida. Alabama. Mississippi.

We are no rush to leave Destin. It’s so nice here and we want to get our moneys worth from the RV park. Plus we know there’s no where we are really going to be getting out of the RV much between here and home. State parks are closed and no access to water. Combined with the heat of Texas, New Mexico, Nevada…were are really going to just get driving the next few days.

The beach was even nicer in full sun today.

Daisy the Sphinx

Daisy actually enjoyed it because the sand was cool.

Alright time head off…

The battleship in Mobil Bay that we didn’t stop at both ways

We made it to Mississippi and stayed on the Gulf, right where we stayed on the way over at Buccaneer State Park and the Silver Slipper Casino. We had a nice spot right on the beach but it we could not connect to power.

Day 210. 3.23.20. Destin. Florida.

Edwin woke up at 5am and started driving. It was a weird night. For the first time at a Walmart a security guard came up to Edwin and said we needed to inside and ask permission to stay overnight. Which he did. And then about a half later after we were already in bed the security guy parked right at our butt all night with his lights on us. It was uncomfortable, but were too tired to co to us driving, but that is what got Edwin up in the am and get a move on.

We saw the sunrise as we drove on the highway along Miami, but we just wanted to get through Florida without having to stop.

I went and snuggled with the girls at 7am and slept for a few hours.

Even after a long morning nap I was quite selfishly cranky most of the day that we are going home. Its really the only smart/safe option, but yes I’m still selfishly bummed.

We made it all the way to Destin, Florida which we missed on the way over in lieu of beating feet to Disney. I’m happy we at least got to see it here. We stopped at an RV park because last night was pretty unbearable not being plugged in with the AC on. Vera was an awesome co pilot and read out loud to me while I was driving.

The RV park was right on the beach. Because the sand is private property of the RV park we were able to enjoy the white sand the Florida panhandle offers. No one is allowed in the water as all public beaches are closed.

The water looks amazing here. It’s called the “Emerald Coast”. I’ve never heard of it before we came this way. On the west coast of Florida the sand was. Nice, but we didn’t love the water. (granted we didn’t go to all the “nicest” beaches on the west coast because we had to go where it was either RV or dog friendly) Here the water looks very tempting.

We were just happy to be outside as we spent the entire day in the car. Everyone needed to get a little energy out.

We bought scallops on the way out of the Keys and they were amazing. Easily the best scallops we’ve ever had.

I’m happy to be in Destin. I’m glad we made the big drive over here. A good place to stay the night.

Day 209. 3.22.20. Key West. Florida.

We’re leaving the Keys today right? Yes of course…just after one more boat ride today.

We had planned leaving a few days ago. We stayed for a boat ride and to meet the Lima 😉 family. Then we were supposed to leave last night after the boat ride. Needless to say we ordered pizza, the kids stayed in the pool till almost 10pm, we stayed the night and were invited to stay and go out on the boat again on Sunday. Hard to say no to these requests.

A few days ago I was like “I don’t know, the keys are nice, but not amazing.” Today I’m like “I think I can live here…”

We went back to the sandbar 🏝 again today. The boys are sharing all the other things they do on the boat. Not sure which one I’d like to do more…go lobstering 🦞, fishing 🎣, or snorkeling out at Looe Key 🤿. The weather is too windy for any of those activities so poor us had to be ok with another day at the sandbar.

Another great day. It’s so nice to have a boat day. Sitting in the shallow water at the sand bar. Playing catch. More skin boarding (but this we all did fall on our butts). And more fried chicken.

This morning we already prepped the kids (or really ourselves) that we are NOT staying for dinner whether we are invited or not, the kids are allowed to go swimming, but only for about 1/2 hour, and we are leaving tonight.

A few days ago the cities of Key West asked/ordered all non locals off the island by Sunday. We decided against Angel’s month offer no matter how tempting it sounds.

It’s time. It’s time to go home.

We were tired, but we knew it would be easier to get on the road tonight. It would be easier to continue being on the road if we stayed in a Walmart parking lot rather than debating if we could go for a morning swim etc…
